The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) has distributed relief materials among the flood-affected people.

High-ups of the apex trade organisation visited two submerged districts on Wednesday and promised to continue their cooperation.

FBCCI President Sheikh Fazle Fahim, flanked by local business leaders of Jamalpur, distributed relief materials in the morning. Later, they went to Sunamganj – a north-eastern district of Bangladesh – and conducted another relief campaign.

FBCCI Senior Vice-President Md Muntakim Ashraf, Vice-President Md Rejaul Kariem Rejnu, FBCCI Director Sujib Ranjan Das, Deputy Commissioner of Sunamganj Abdul Ahad and Sunamganj Superintendent of Police Barkat Ullah Khan, among others, were present.

Rain-swollen rivers ripped through several embankments, submerging dozens of villages, destroying tens of thousands of homes and displacing nearly 200,000 people across Bangladesh during this monsoon.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies says more than 4 million people are at risk of food insecurity and disease because of the flooding.
