FBCCI election: 15 from Sammilito Byaboshayi Parishad and 8 from Byaboshayi Oikko Parishad elected directors

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), the apex body of the country's businesspersons, has elected 15 members of the Sammilito Byaboshayi Parishad and 8 members of from Byaboshayi Oikko Parishad as directors for the period 2023-2025.

FBCCI Election Management Board Chairman Matin Chowdhury announced the election results at around 3:30am on Tuesday (1 August)

Among the elected, Hafez Haji Mohammad Enayet Ullah got 1,294 votes, BM Shoaib got 1,279 votes, Mir Nizam Uddin Ahmed got 1,257 votes, Sirajul Islam got 1,246 votes, Md Sahidul Haque Mollah got 1,215 votes, Nizam Uddin Rajesh got 1,191 votes, Md Muntakim Ashraf got 1,175 votes, Rakibul Alam Dipu got 992 votes, Mohammad Aftab Javed got 966 votes, Md Ishakul Hossain Sweet got 891 votes, Amir Hossain Noorani got 852 votes, Syed Md Bakhtiar got 840 votes, Tapan Kumar Majumder got 835 votes, Salma Hossain got 831 votes and Haji Md Abul Hashem got 815 votes.

89% vote cast in FBCCI biennial election

Kawsar Ahmed with 1,030 votes, Khandkar Ruhul Amin with 988 votes, Md Amin Helali with 911 votes, Md Niaz Ali Chishti with 909 votes, Abu Motaleb with 899 votes, Shomi Kaiser with 852 votes, Rashedul Hossain Chowdhury Roni with 837 votes and Hafez Harun with 813 votes were among those elected by the Byaboshayi Oikko Parishad.

Elections for the posts of FBCCI president, senior vice-presidents and six vice-presidents will be held on 2 August by the elected directors.

Earlier on Monday (31 July), the election started at 9:30am and continued until 4:30pm.

"In this year's election, sector-based associations initially had a total of 1,990 voters, but after verification, 1,954 voters were included in the final list for voting. Among the total voters, 1,746 voted in the election with an 89.35% turnout," A Matin Chowdhury, chairman of the FBCCI Election Management Board, said during a press briefing at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on Monday afternoon. 

Matin Chowdhury said, "None of the voters complained about the election. Because voters are allowed to vote by matching their NID cards and signatures. No fake votes. All the voters were geuinine. However, there were minor complaints, which were quickly resolved."

He also said that the election atmosphere was very peaceful and festive.

49 candidates contested as candidates against 23 elected director posts from sector-based associations. Among them, 23 people are from the Sammilito Bebosayee Parishad, 23 people are from the Bebosayee Oikya Parishad and 3 director candidates are contested as independent candidates.
