Father, son killed in Ctg road crash; protesters torch BRTC bus
“The cause of the accident will be investigated and further action will be taken accordingly,” police said.
A man and his teenage son were killed in a three-way collision involving a BRTC bus, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle in Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram this morning (1 June).
The deceased were identified as Mohammad Shahjahan, 45, and his son, Officer-in-Charge of Fatikchhari Police Station Rabiul Alam Khan confirmed.
The OC said, "Two individuals died in the accident. The bodies have been recovered and necessary legal procedures are being carried out."
"The cause of the accident will be investigated and further action will be taken accordingly," he added.
According to police and local sources, Shahjahan and his son were travelling on a motorcycle when it collided with a speeding BRTC bus coming from the opposite direction.
The accident triggered protests in the area, with an agitated mob setting fire to the state-run Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) bus involved in the collision.
Angry residents blocked the road and staged demonstrations, disrupting vehicular movement on the route. At one stage, protesters set the bus on fire, according to eyewitnesses.
Upon receiving the information, police and fire service personnel rushed to the scene, extinguished the blaze and brought the situation under control.
