A video of a microbus running over a stray dog in the capital's Pallabi area has gone viral on Facebook, leading to harsh criticism of the driver and demand that he be given exemplary punishment.

Anika Islam, who posted CCTV camera footage of the incident on her Facebook profile last night (11 April), wrote the microbus arrived on Road 11 of Pallabi's Avenue 6 to pick up someone.

"That time, Tommy [stray pet dog] was still sleeping ... The criminal driver has intentionally ran over her and killed her," she wrote.

"This driver must be punished. I swear to Allah I will make sure this killer rots in jail," she added.

When asked, Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Pallabi Police Station, said they have yet to be informed.

"We will look into it once we get a formal complaint," he added.

The Business Standard is trying to reach Anika for further information on the matter.

Netizens are sharing the video and demanding exemplary publishment of the driver in posts and comments.
