Ex-MP, eight other Awami League men arrested in Dhaka
The arrests were made in coordinated operations carried out by different units of the DB

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested nine individuals affiliated with the Awami League, including a former Member of Parliament and a former ward commissioner, during separate drives across the capital on Monday and Tuesday.
Confirming the arrests, DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman said, "Legal action against the arrestees is underway."
The arrestees include Amirul Alam Milon, 70, a member of the Awami League Central Committee and former MP from Bagerhat-4; Kazi Md Sarwar Jahan Mithu, 42, vice-president of Pallabi Thana Jubo League; Md Shafiqul Islam Dilu, 72, former ward commissioner of Ward 63, Jatrabari; Mohammad Taj Uddin, 35, vice-president of Shah Ali Thana Awami League; Ismail Hossain Pradhaniya, 48, general secretary of Ramna Thana Swechchhasebak League; Md Mokhlesur Rahman, 72, chairman of Chapainawabganj Sadar Municipality and vice-president of Sadar Upazila Awami League; Md Emran Goldar, 45, publicity secretary of Banshal Thana Awami League; Mohammad Tanvir Ahmed Antu, 35, former president of Ward 62 of the banned organisation Chhatra League; and Aritra Nandi, 27, joint general secretary of Jagannath Hall unit of the banned Chhatra League, Dhaka University.
According to DB sources, the arrests were made in coordinated operations carried out by different units of the DB.
On Monday night (5 May), a team from DB's Wari Division arrested Milon from the Indira Road area. Earlier that day, the same division arrested Mithu from the Bangshal area. Mithu has two murder cases filed against him at Mirpur and Pallabi police stations.
Also on Monday, DB's Cyber Division arrested Dilu from the Dhanmondi area. Several murder cases are reportedly pending against him.
That morning, DB's Mirpur Division conducted a raid in the Beribadh area of Mirpur and arrested Taj Uddin. Later that night, the Cyber Division arrested Ismail from near Viqarunnisa Noon School. He also has multiple pending cases, including murder charges.
DB's Tejgaon Division arrested Md Mokhlesur Rahman from the Gabtoli area today (6 May).
According to police, all nine individuals were allegedly involved in a plan to destabilise the country by disrupting law and order and spreading panic through flash processions in various areas of the capital.
Other arrests have also been made in connection with this alleged conspiracy, according to DB officials. However, further details were not available.
