The court also fixed 12 October for a hearing on Noor’s bail petition in the case.
Former cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor has been shown arrested in a case filed over amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Foyez issued the order today (22 September), following a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said Faiz Uddin, deputy assistant director of the Prosecution Department.
The court also fixed 12 October for a hearing on Noor's bail petition in the case.
According to the case statement, Noor allegedly abused his power to acquire assets worth Tk5.37 crore illegally.
The ACC said investigations revealed suspicious transactions worth Tk158.78 crore through 19 bank accounts under his name, involving transfer, conversion, and handling of money, which violate the Anti-Money Laundering Act and ACC regulations.
The case further alleges that Tk85.72 crore was deposited and Tk73.05 crore withdrawn from Noor's accounts, with the sources of these transactions remaining "unexplained".
Noor was arrested on 15 September 2024 in a case filed over a murder during the July Uprising and has been in jail since.
