Ex-IGP Mamun appears in ICT as state witness in crimes against humanity case against Hasina, others
Trail began against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina on charges of crimes against humanity for killings and torture during the protests of Students Against Discrimination and mass movement in July and August 2024

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al‑Mamun appeared before the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today (3 August) as a state witness in a case filed against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and others on charges of crimes against humanity during the July uprising.
The two others accused in the case are Mamun himself and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
Among them, Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun filed a petition to become a state witness, which has been formally accepted by the ICT, on the condition that he discloses the full truth surrounding the alleged events.
This marks the first time he has appeared in court in this new role.
The ICT officially commenced the trial proceedings against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina on charges of crimes against humanity for killings and torture during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and mass uprising in 2024.
Mamun was brought to the tribunal from prison in a standard prison van today. However, unlike his previous court appearances, he was not seen wearing handcuffs or a protective helmet.
The tribunal began with the prosecution's opening statement, followed by the first witness testimonies today. With court approval, the proceedings are being broadcast live on Bangladesh Television (BTV).
Mamun sighs, tears up in tribunal while watching July Uprising victim video
Former IGP Mamun was seen letting out a deep sigh and wiping tears as he watched footage of victims injured and killed during the July Uprising at the tribunal.
The moment occurred during a hearing led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder.
Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam presented the opening statement in the absence of the accused, with Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman also in attendance.
Towards the end of the session, a video was shown in court displaying the brutal scenes of the uprising. One clip showed how Khokon Chandra Barman, the first witness against Hasina, was shot in front of Jatrabari Police Station, sustaining a devastating facial injury that shattered parts of his jawbone.
The graphic footage visibly moved Mamun, who stood and sighed audibly, later seen wiping tears from his eyes.
Earlier in the day, he was brought to the tribunal from Keraniganj Central Jail at around 9:25am.
