'Clear breach of conflict of interest rule': Ex-DU law Prof Ridwanul Hoque on appointment of BB governor
Ridwanul wrote that the appointment of the central bank governor is “a thing to be worried about too much.”
The appointment of the central bank governor should raise serious concerns over governance and conflict of interest, said former Dhaka University (DU) law professor Ridwanul Hoque in a Facebook post today (26 February).
In the post titled "On Central Bank Boss," he alleged that the new BNP government is increasingly deviating from principles of good governance and the rule of law.
Ridwanul wrote that the appointment of the central bank governor is "a thing to be worried about too much," warning that keeping the financial and economic sectors free from political influence and business tycoons is essential to avoid major failures.
"If the financial and economic sectors cannot be kept free of politics and business tycoons, mega failures are not far away," he said.
He further described the appointment as "a clear breach of the conflict of interest rule."
The post comes amid discussions over the recent appointment of the central bank chief following the formation of the new government.
