Massive evacuations are underway across the coastal belts as cyclonic storm Bulbul approaches to make landfall this evening. 

Authorities in Khulna have launched massive evacuation drives at the coastal belts ahead of the landfall of cyclone Bulbul. 

A total of 349 cyclone shelters have been prepared to host 2.38 Lakh coastal people in the area, said Khulna disaster management committee.

People from Koyra and Dakop upazila have started to arrive at the shelter homes this morning.

In addition, the authorities have opened 10 control rooms to monitor the situation. 

Bhola District Administration has opened eight control rooms to monitor the situation, reports our correspondent quoting Deputy Commissioner Masud Alam Siddique. 

People of the char areas have started to arrive at the 668 shelter centres by and 12,000 volunteers are working in the area, he added.  

"A total of 20 tonnes of rice, 2,000 packets of dry food and Tk10 lakh have been allocated for the victims," said the commissioner.

Barguna District Administration has prepared 509 shelter centres ahead of the landfall of cyclonic storm Bulbul.

"Around five lakh people will get shelter in the centres," said Barguna Deputy Commissioner Md Mostain Billah.

Eight control rooms have been set up in the district and 42 medical teams have been formed across six upazilas in the district, he added.

In addition, a total of 7,000 volunteers are also working in the area, our correspondent reports quoting the deputy commissioner.

In Patuakhali, 403 shelter centres have been opened after Met office advised to hoist danger signal 10 ahead of Bulbul's landfall, reports our correspondent quoting Deputy Commissioner Matiul Islam Chowdhury. 

In addition, people of the coastal areas adjoining Payra maritme port are rushing to the shelter centres, Kalapara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Munibur Rahman told our correspondent. 

In Chittagong, authorities have prepared 479 shelter centres and 4000 educational institutions ahead of cyclone Bulbul's landfall, reports our correspondent quoting Chattogram District Administration Staff Officer Tanvir Ahmad Shamim. 

In addition, medical teams are ready and control rooms have been opened to monitor the situation, he added.  

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Md Elias Hossen said Coast Guard, Army and Navy is also prepared to tackle the situation.  

Meanwhile, sufficient security measures have been taken to ensure the safety of tourists stranded in St Martin's island, he added.
