EU exploratory mission meets EC officials to assess pre-election environment
The team is set to meet the CEC following the meeting with officials
An eight-member pre-election exploratory team from the European Union held a meeting with the Election Commission (EC) officials ahead of the next national parliamentary election.
The meeting was held at the EC office in Agargaon at 3pm today (22 September), ending at 5pm.
The EU team is observing the election environment, preparations, and monitoring arrangements.
The team will also hold another meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah today.
The first session is from 3pm to 4pm with EC officials, followed by a meeting with the chief election commissioner from 4pm to 5pm.
Md Moin Uddin Khan, joint secretary (election management-2), said the delegation will discuss voting conditions, EC preparations, and whether the EU will send an observation team.
The EU team is also consulting government and non-government stakeholders.
The EC will present preparations for the election, the political environment, and measures for a free and fair vote, including legal reforms, postal voting, party registration, voter list updates, training, delimitation, polling stations, observer registration, and progress on the election roadmap.
According to the Election Commission, all preparations for the February election are ongoing, and the schedule is expected in early December.
