Cold wave to persist as temperature unlikely to go up until Tuesday: Met office

With the seasonal low now over the South Bay, the ongoing mild cold wave in parts of the country may last for several more days, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
In addition, night temperature may drop further, with chances of rainfall at places in the next four days. The temperature is unlikely to rise till Tuesday, according to a BMD forecast for the next 72 hours commencing at 9am on Friday.
"Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country," it said.

Moderate to thick fog may occur over the river basins and light to moderate fog elsewhere over the country during midnight to morning. Air navigation, inland river transport and road communication may disrupt temporarily due to fog.
"Night temperature may fall by 1-2 degrees Celsius and day temperature may rise by 1-2 degrees Celsius over the country.
"Cold weather is likely to prevail at places over the northwestern part of the country," added the forecast valid for the next 24 hours from 9am on Friday.
Until Monday, the night temperature may fall slightly or remain unchanged over the country, according to the forecast.
Meteorologist Md Omar Faruq of the Bangladesh Meteorologist Department said, "As a result of the rain [on Thursday], there has been a substantial decrease in fog across different areas of the country, including the capital, on Friday. As the sun appeared, the day temperature also increased. However, the temperature may drop by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius on Friday night."
On Friday, the country's lowest temperature was recorded in Panchagarh's Tetulia at 9.7 degrees Celsius. In Dhaka, the lowest temperature was 15 degrees Celsius.
Regarding the possibilities of rain, meteorologist Mostofa Kamal Palash, a PhD researcher on meteorology and climate at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, said, "European and American weather forecast models indicate the potential occurrence of rain between 24-26 January, and between 30 January-1 February.
