Heavy rain, landslide warnings for Ctg, Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati
The maritime ports of Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal no 3
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall for Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, and Chattogram districts over the next 48 hours, starting from 4pm today (4 November).
According to the BMD, a well-marked low-pressure area persists over the northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of the east-central Bay, Myanmar, and the Bangladesh coasts.
It is likely to move north-northwestwards along the Myanmar-Bangladesh coasts.
Under its influence, heavy (44-88 mm in 24 hours) to very heavy (over 88 mm in 24 hours) rainfall is likely to occur at places over the four southeastern districts during the forecast period.
The met office also warned that, due to very heavy rainfall, landslides may occur in the hilly regions of Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, and Chattogram.
Meanwhile, the maritime ports of Chattogram and Cox's Bazar have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal no 3.
Although the monsoon officially ended in mid-October with little rainfall afterward, different regions, including Dhaka, have been experiencing showers again since Thursday (1 November).
This follows the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, which later developed into Cyclone Montha and made landfall in India's Andhra Pradesh.
Even though the cyclone has weakened, its impact continues to linger.
