Gazipur City administrator inspects Eid waste removal, canal excavation efforts

Dhaka Divisional Commissioner and Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) Administrator Sharf Uddin Ahmed Choudhury visited several key locations across the city on Sunday to monitor ongoing sacrificial waste removal and canal excavation efforts aimed at easing waterlogging in the area.
From morning until noon, he inspected waste removal and canal excavation activities in Tongi, Bhogra Bypass, and Chandana intersection areas.
As part of a three-day special cleanup initiative for Eid-ul-Adha, GCC began waste removal operations from midday on Eid day. In parallel, canal recovery and excavation works are ongoing in various parts of the city and along the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway to address chronic waterlogging issues. These activities continued even on the public holiday following Eid.
According to GCC officials, the administrator arrived in Gazipur around 10am to inspect the progress. He began with canal inspections in Tongi, visiting an eviction drive at a grabbed canal in Bashpotti.
He also reviewed the road expansion work on Bonmala Road and later visited the excavation and cleaning operations at the Moghar canal in Bhogra.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress, he instructed officials to ensure the canals are protected from re-encroachment and from blockages caused by non-biodegradable waste.
The administrator proposed forming local committees around key canal-side markets and residential areas to discourage indiscriminate waste disposal directly into water channels. Instead, residents would deposit waste at designated spots from where city cleaners could collect and transport it to dump points. He called for support from all conscious citizens to make the initiative successful.
Accompanying the administrator were GCC Chief Executive Officer Abdul Latif Khan, Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Nafisa Arefin, among others.
