An important and final stage of the turbine installation has been successfully completed at the first unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.

This achievement marks the placement of the turbine set onto the barring gear, reads a press release.

According of Rosatom, the Russian contractor of the project, during the tests, the turbine shaft was rotated at a slow speed to verify proper functionality.

The barring gear ensures correct alignment and balancing of the turbine rotor before the start-up and shutdown, which prevents the turbine components form wearing and ensures safe and efficient work.

The experts carried out control checks that confirmed the accuracy of the alignment and high quality of assembly of the turbine set.

"Installation of the turbine at Rooppur NPP unit-1 has been completed successfully, and this is an important step to the physical start-up of the plant," noted Alexey Deriy, Atomstroyexport vice president for projects in Bangladesh.

"The turbine set placement on the barring gear and successful control checks confirm the accuracy of the assembly and reliability of the equipment. This result is an accomplishment of a highly qualified team of specialists and another evidence of the reliability of Russian technologies," he added.

Bangladesh's first-ever nuclear power plant is being implemented at Rooppur with Russia's technical and financial support. The plant will host two units each of 1,200 MWe capacity with 3+ generation VVER 1200 reactors.

The first unit is getting ready for fuel loading and subsequent start-up. Rosatom Engineering Division is the general designer and contractor of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
