The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has lowered the price of a 12kg cylinder of liquefied natural gas (LPG) by Tk28 to Tk1,450 for March.

The new price will come into effect from 6pm today (3 March), according to a notification published on the BERC website.

In February, a 12kg LPG cylinder cost consumers Tk1,478.

Per kg LP gas price has been brought down by Tk2.35 to Tk120.81 from Tk 123.16 for the month, according to BERC.

The prices for other sizes of LPG cylinders — ranging from 5.5kg to 45kg — will also be adjusted accordingly.

Meanwhile, the price of "autogas", used for motor vehicles, has also been decreased by Tk1.31 to Tk66.43 per litre (including VAT) for March. It was Tk67.74 in February.

For March pricing, BERC said, Saudi Aramco's average price for propane and butane has been set at $615 per tonne, up from $605 in March.

However, the price of LPG marketed by the state-owned LP Gas Company will remain unchanged, as it is locally produced and holds a market share of less than 5%.

LPG witnessed the highest price at Tk1,498 (per 12kg cylinder) in the local market in February 2023.
