DPDC signs agreement with Oculin Tech

Dhaka Power Distribution Company Ltd (DPDC), JVCA of Oculin Tech BD Ltd, Landis+Gyr Ltd, and Computer Services Ltd signed a contract for a project titled "Design, Supply, Installation, Testing & Commissioning of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) with Smart Metering System on Turnkey Basis".

The entire scope of this project covers 850,000 meters under the DPDC coverage area in the capital, said a press release.

State minister for Power, Energy & Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid attended the contract signing ceremony as the chief guest, which was held on June 20.

Dr Sultan Ahmed, secretary, power division and chairman of DPDC and Engr Bikash Dewan, managing director, DPDC attended the programme as special guests.

Senior management of many of the other utilities also joined the virtual contract signing ceremony via video confrence.

Shadab Sajid, managing director and Rumman Akhter CTO & director, represented Oculin Tech at the event and Landis+Gyr was represented by Prasenjit Datta.

Under this JV project, Oculin Tech as the lead bidder, has successfully brought together some of the world's leading and renowned companies in the field of smart-metering technology covering software, hardware and communication solutions.

The key multinational companies that have come onboard to implement this project in addition to JV partner Landis+Gyr are Oracle Inc., USA and Tech Mahindra, India.

This type of AMI project is the first of its kind in Bangladesh and can be considered a milestone for the utilities sector. Its successful implementation will deliver DPDC a very robust system and at the same time bring greater efficiencies to the power sector utility and its customers.
