Eight illegal brick kilns in Gazipur fined Tk62 lakh

A mobile court of the environment department has fined eight illegal brick kilns Tk62 lakh in Kaliganj of Gazipur for not having approval.

Led by Executive Magistrate of the Environment Department Kazi Tamzeed Ahmed, the mobile court destroyed all the brick kilns with an excavator machine on Monday.

According to sources, the mobile court of the environment department carried out a drive against illegal brick kilns in different areas of Kaliganj upazila.

Meanwhile, six illegal brick kilns owned by Farooq Mia in Mulgaon area were fined Tk50 lakh. Later, two other brick kilns in Gonapara area owned by Niranjan Ghosh and Aminul Islam Arif were fined Tk12 lakh.

At that time, the fire service personnel put out the fire of these brick kilns and smashed them with an excavator machine.

Kazi Tamjeed Ahmed, executive magistrate of the mobile court said, "Eight illegal brickfields in Kaliganj of Gazipur have been fined Tk62 lakh. The drive against illegal brick kilns in Gazipur will continue."

Deputy Director of the Department of Environment of Gazipur Abdus Salam Sarkar, Assistant Director Momin Bhuiyan, Research Officer Ashraf Uddin, Inspector Sheikh Mojaheed, Dilruba Akter of RAB 1, and Police and Fire Service officials were present at the drive.
