Eid travel: Padma, Jamuna bridges see record crossings and tolls
A total of 179,795 vehicles crossed the Jamuna Bridge in four days, generating Tk12,94,13,100 in toll.
On the day before Eid, people travelling to northern regions returned home with relative ease despite slow movement over the past two days. Also, both the Padma and Jamuna bridges saw high vehicle crossings and toll collection.

According to the bridges authority, from Sunday midnight to Monday midnight, 35,658 vehicles crossed the bridge, generating Tk2,84,49,700 in toll.
From Monday midnight to Tuesday midnight, 46,943 vehicles crossed the bridge, with toll collection reaching Tk3,39,04,650.
From Tuesday midnight to Wednesday midnight, 51,584 vehicles crossed, generating Tk3,51,82,600 in toll.
From Wednesday midnight to yesterday midnight, 45,610 vehicles crossed the bridge, with Tk3,27,46,850 collected in toll.
Executive Engineer of the Jamuna Bridge site office, Syed Riaz Uddin, said vehicles are being managed through 18 booths, with nine on each side, including two booths on each side designated for motorcycles.
He added that necessary measures have been taken at both ends of the bridge to ensure smooth traffic movement and the situation is being monitored round the clock during the Eid journey.
At the Padma Bridge, a total of 119,682 vehicles crossed between 17 and 19 March, compared to 100,802 during the same period last year, while toll collection stood at Tk13,21,51,800, up from Tk12,00,78,400 last year.
On 18 March, the Jamuna Bridge recorded its highest single-day vehicle crossing at 51,384 vehicles, compared to 48,368 in 2025.
Despite higher traffic pressure than last year, no major accidents or severe congestion were reported.
Officials said multiple measures have been taken to ensure smooth travel, including increasing motorcycle lanes, operating all toll booths, introducing non-stop electronic toll collection, opening bus bays, enhancing surveillance, deploying security, ensuring emergency response, and providing passenger assistance and health services.
