RU students stage protest against restoration of ‘dependent quota’
They will stage demonstration after Friday prayers from the university's central Jame Masjid

Students of Rajshahi University staged a protest in front of the vice chancellor's residence on Thursday evening (18 September), opposing the reinstatement of the so-called "dependent quota" for children of teachers, officials, and employees.
The demonstration began around 7:15pm, with protesters chanting slogans against the quota restoration decision.
Leaders and activists from student groups including Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir later joined the protest expressing solidarity.

Protesters declared that Rajshahi University students would not accept the return of the abolished quota and vowed to continue their movement until it is revoked.
Around 11:30pm, the protest organisers withdrew the sit-in programme for the night. They announced a new protest programme scheduled for tomorrow. The demonstration will begin after Friday prayers from the university's central Jame Masjid.
Earlier that day, the university's admission committee met at Senate Bhaban and conditionally approved restoring the quota for the 2024–25 academic year.
Under the decision, children of teachers, officers, and employees may be admitted under the quota, but with restrictions: only up to two students per department who score at least 40 (the pass mark) will qualify.
The dependent quota was scrapped on January 2 this year following strong student protests.
