Mohammad Zakaria Khan elected ESTCDT Chair, Dr. Husne Ara Ali Vice-Chair

Mohammad Zakaria Khan has been elected Chairman of the Education Science Technology and Cultural Development Trust (ESTCDT) for a two-year term starting January 2025. Trustee Dr. Husne Ara Ali has been elected Vice-Chairman for the same period. Both were unanimously chosen in the December 2024 elections.
Mr. Khan succeeds Mrs. Nilufer Zafarullah, while Dr. Ali replaces Salma Karim. ESTCDT, founded in 1992, aims to elevate Bangladesh's higher education to global standards. The Trust established Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) in 1993 and Chittagong Independent University (CIU) in 1999.
Born in 1950, Mohammad Zakaria Khan graduated from the University of Dhaka in English and chairs several companies, including COSCO and Goldhill Chemical Complex Ltd. He is also a Founder Director of NRBC Bank Ltd. and Federal Insurance Co. Ltd. Previously, he was Managing Director of Channel 9 and publisher of Bangla Bazar Patrika.
Dr. Husne Ara Ali, an accomplished researcher, holds PhD and MPhil degrees in Pharmacy from the University of Dhaka. She has been an IUB trustee since 2008 and is a founding trustee of two welfare trusts. A prolific author and philanthropist, Dr. Ali is the mother of two medical specialists.
