MBBS admission test results released, pass rate 47.83

A total of 49,923 students have passed the MBBS admission test for the academic year 2023-2024, marking a significant increase in the pass rate compared to the previous year.

This year, 47.83% of admission seekers passed, compared to 35.34% or 49,194 applicants in 2022. The pass mark was 40.

"Girls outnumbered boys in the pass rate of the admission test. Of the students who passed the exam, 20,457 (40.98%) are boys and 29,466 (59.02%) are girls," said Health Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen while unveiling the results during a press briefing at the Directorate General of Health Services on Sunday.

"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has consistently advocated for the empowerment of women, and this commitment is reflected in her policies and initiatives. We've seen an advancement in girls' performance, particularly in the medical entry test."

Tanjim Muntaka Sarba, who passed the HSC examination from Holy Cross College in Dhaka, secured the highest score of 92.5 on the entry test. 

Based on national merit, 2,312 boys (43%) and 3,068 girls (57%) will be enrolled in public medical colleges and then at private ones. Out of the 5,380 students on the merit list, 5,072 have qualified through the merit quota, 5% or 269 students through the Freedom Fighter quota, and 39 students have qualified through seats reserved for indigenous peoples.

Out of 5,380 selected candidates for Government Medical College seats, 4,347 passed the HSC exam in 2023 and 1,003 passed the HSC in 2022.

The deadline for admission of selected students to Government Medical College is 18-24 February. Online application notification for admission to private medical colleges will be published on 14 February.

Over 102,000 aspiring doctors took the MBBS admission test last Friday, held across 44 institutes in 19 centres nationwide. The test determines who will be enrolled in 5,380 seats in 37 public medical colleges and 6,295 seats in 67 private medical colleges.
