JU students release 28 seized buses after getting Tk30,000 compensation
The owners admitted their mistake, apologised, and gave a written bond promising to treat students well in the future, says the university proctor

Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) released 28 Rajdhani Paribahan buses this afternoon (3 September), nearly 16 hours after seizing them in protest of an incident of a female student being pushed off a moving bus.
The release came after bus owners apologised, signed a bond, and paid Tk30,000 in compensation to the female student.
The discussion between Rajdhani Paribahan owners and JU students was held in the presence of Proctor Professor AKM Rashidul Alam, with the victim's classmates also attending.
"The owners admitted their mistake, apologised, and gave a written bond promising to treat students well in the future and have paid Tk30,000 as compensation to the victim student," JU proctor told The Business Standard.
The incident occurred yesterday (2 September) evening when Halima Khatun, a student of the 2020–21 academic session at the Department of Public Administration, was returning to campus from private tuition.
She said in a Facebook post following the incident that she boarded a Rajdhani Paribahan bus at the Savar Thana bus stand. Upon informing the bus staff that she was headed to Jahangirnagar University, the helper allegedly pushed her out of the vehicle. "The bus had already started moving, and I fell off. I suffered injuries to my leg."
Halima was later treated at the university's medical centre.
Angered by the incident, JU students blocked the Dhaka–Aricha highway and seized 28 buses that night.
