IUB formulae wins first place at Innoverse Bangladesh 2025
IUB FormulaE, a team of students from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), has secured first place in the Shaheed Tanvin Innovation Award category at Innoverse Bangladesh 2025.
The event, held on 14–15 November 2025 at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), showcased leading university innovations from across the country. IUB FormulaE was recognised for its advancement in electric vehicle (EV) technology.
The winning project features a fully self-developed EV powertrain designed for a Formula Student electric vehicle. At its core is a redesigned low-voltage three-phase induction motor, engineered to enhance safety, accessibility and efficiency for local EV applications. An in-house variable frequency drive complements the motor—a technically advanced achievement rarely undertaken at the undergraduate level in Bangladesh. The powertrain is supplied by a 60V LiFePO₄ battery pack with a smart battery management system to improve safety, longevity and performance.
Together, these innovations deliver a scalable, cost-effective and research-driven EV powertrain suited to Bangladesh's needs. By reducing reliance on imported components and prioritising affordability, safety and practical functionality, the project supports the nation's transition towards clean electric mobility. The combination of technical depth, innovation and potential societal impact contributed to the team's first-place success.
Innoverse Bangladesh 2025, organised by Whiteboard Initiatives with support from the ICT Division and A2i, selected 45 leading projects for exhibition. Teams were evaluated on innovation, technical completeness, applicability, impact and presentation. IUB FormulaE topped all participating university teams, earning an official certificate, winner's crest, media recognition and a Tk50,000 prize.
IUB FormulaE operates under the supervision of Dr Khosru Md Salim, Professor in the Department of EEE and Director of the Green Energy Research Centre (GERC) at IUB. The team was founded and is led by Md Imtiaz Abedin, adjunct faculty member in the EEE department and research assistant at GERC.
Team members are: Md Mohiuddin Shuvo, Kallyen Kumar Tirtho, Syed Alif Ahmed Prothom, Kazi Shafin Al-Fee, Mahir Asif Sadman, Feroj Al Morsadi, Nowfil Bin Atiq, Mahady Mohammad Mainul, Nafisa Amin, Md Tahsin Hoq Bhuiyan, Md Shafin Rahman, Khadizatul Kubra Mow, Ankit Roy, Shakil Talukder, Tazwarul Amin, Arifin Imran, Sadman Sami and Rayat Al Mueed.
