IUB alumnus Osama Khan to lead University of South Wales
Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) accorded a reception to Osama Khan, an alumnus of its School of Business and Entrepreneurship, who has recently been appointed Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of South Wales, United Kingdom.
The reception was organised by IUB's Career Guidance, Placement and Alumni Relations (CGP&AR) Office on 22 December.
Prof Khan, who will assume office in May 2026, is the first academic of Bangladeshi heritage to be appointed to the top leadership role at a public university in Europe and North America. He completed his Bachelor of Business Administration from IUB in 1999, graduating as valedictorian with a double major in finance and economics. He is currently serving as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at Aston University, UK, and holds academic degrees from the University of Cambridge, Lancaster University and the University of Surrey.
The event was attended by Didar A Husain, Chairman of the IUB Board of Trustees; Trustee Dr Husne Ara Ali; Vice-Chancellor Prof M Tamim; Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Daniel W Lund; faculty members, administrators and alumni.
Speaking at the event, Prof Khan described IUB as a defining part of his academic and professional journey, crediting the institution for shaping his career. Didar A Husain recalled the university's early days and expressed pride in Prof Khan's achievements.
During the programme, Prof Khan was presented with an IUB-branded sash, crest and alumni identity card, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony. The event concluded with dinner and cultural performances.
