DSHE directs institutions to organise year-round sports, co-curricular activities
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education has directed all affiliated institutions to run these programmes year-round for students' physical and mental development.
Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) directed all educational institutions across the country to organise sports and co-curricular activities to promote students' physical and mental development alongside academic education.
In an official order issued today (10 September), the DSHE said regular participation in such activities alongside formal education would help students develop their latent talents.
According to the DSHE directive, the sports activities to be organised at educational institutions include football, volleyball, chess, cricket, table tennis, kabaddi, badminton, handball, basketball, hockey, rural and traditional games, swimming, athletics, taekwondo and martial arts.
Co-curricular activities include Bangla and English debates, wall magazine publication, book-reading programmes, daily newspaper reading, environmental protection initiatives such as tree planting and campus cleaning, digital content creation, mental health awareness, the Mathematics Olympiad and the "One Child, One Tree" initiative.
Cultural activities include modern, patriotic, Nazrul, Rabindra and folk music; Bangla poetry recitation, solo acting, quizzes, dance, graffiti, drawing competitions .
The directive said sports and co-curricular activities must continue throughout the year. Heads of institutions will schedule the activities at convenient times in coordination with academic programmes.
The directive also instructed educational institutions to prioritise activities of boys scouts, rover scouts, girl guides, science clubs, debate clubs and health and physical education clubs.
