The student, Md Mahmudullah Hasan, was sentenced to seven days in prison
An admission candidate was caught using ChatGPT during the Jahangirnagar University undergraduate admission test for the 2025–2026 academic year.
The incident happened today (29 December) during the second shift of the 'A' Unit exam for the Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences. The student was caught in room 102 of the Computer Science and Engineering department.
At 1:30pm, a mobile court was held in the proctor's office meeting room, led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) Abdullah Al Amin of Savar Upazila. The student, Md Mahmudullah Hasan, was sentenced to seven days in prison.
According to the university's proctorial body, the student was taking the exam in the Microbiology building. He took photos of the question paper on his mobile phone and used ChatGPT to find answers. A supervising teacher caught him and handed him over to the proctorial office.
The court also recommended cancelling his answer sheets and roll numbers for both the 'D' and 'A' Unit exams. He may also be banned from participating in future Jahangirnagar University admission tests.
Proctor Prof AKM Rashidul Alam said the executive magistrate passed the judgement. The student's 'D' and 'A' Unit answer sheets will be cancelled, and a prison sentence has been issued.
Acting Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences, Prof Mohammad Mafruhi Sattar, said the proctor's office has informed them. After receiving the roll number of the accused, the result will be cancelled and further steps taken.
