Buet Alumni calls for human chain condemning police action on protesting students
Police used batons, tear gas, water cannons, and sound grenades to disperse peacefully protesting students on 27 August

The BUET Alumni association has condemned the police action against engineering students who were peacefully demonstrating for their rights.
The association has called for a human chain on Monday (1 September) at 4pm at the BUET Shaheed Minar to protest the "inhumane attack" and demand that those responsible be brought to justice, according to a press release.
The call for the protest, issued in an emergency notice by BUET Alumni General Secretary Engineer Mahtab Uddin today (30 August), follows a similar condemnation done yesterday by the BUET Teachers' Association.

On 27 August, police used batons, tear gas, water cannons, and sound grenades to disperse peacefully protesting students, resulting in serious injuries.
In an emergency general meeting, the teachers' association described the police action as "unacceptable" and called for a thorough investigation, the identification of those responsible, and appropriate legal action.
Students from Buet and other engineering institutions had been demonstrating for several days, demanding protection of the rights of BSc (Engineering) graduates to secure positions as assistant engineers or equivalent, elimination of quota-related discrimination in the respective grade, and ensuring a fair and structured recruitment process.
