Drone hunting Aedes mosquitoes finds endangered Dhanesh, native parrot in Ctg

A drone flown in Chattogram on Monday, to hunt down breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes, spotted Dhanesh, an endangered bird species, and a native parrot. 

The Chittagong City Corporation reported that the birds were found on the rooftop of a building in the Andarkilla area.

Later, on Wednesday, an organisation called "Save the Nature of Bangladesh" located the birds. 

Speaking to The Business Standard, Moazzem Hossain Riyad, central president of the organisation, said, "We got to know, a man named Sajjad Bin Sulaiman of Andarkilla was rearing the birds." 

He said they informed the matter to the forest department, but they delayed. Meanwhile, a video of the birds was released on social media. Fearing that the birds would be relocated, the organisation took the initiative to rescue them.

The Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division of Chattogram then took hold of the birds from the city's Cheragi Pahar Azadi Goli in the city on Wednesday evening.

According to the wildlife conservation, the native parrot was in a healthy condition but the Dhanesh had fallen sick.  

However, Chattogram wildlife conservation officer Dipannita Bhattacharya told TBS, "When any such information is available, it should be reported to us immediately.  Those who rescued the birds hampered our investigation and  disrupted our work."

"Anyone can report to us knowing that keeping wild animals in captivity, selling them, and trafficking them is punishable by law.  But the next steps will be managed by our office", she said, adding that efforts are underway to bring the person involved in the incident under the law.
