Do not want to see 'terrorist government' in future: Jamaat Ameer

The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami do not want to see any "terrorist government" in the future, the party's Ameer Shafiqur Rahman said today (4 October)

"We do not want to see any terrorist government in the future. We need to unite our beloved Bangladesh," he told a gathering at the Rajbari Field in Gazipur after meeting families of those killed and injured during the student movement

He said individuals or groups responsible for dividing the nation are its real enemies.

"We must let the world know that there is no division among us for the sake of the country and people, and we will not allow anyone to split us based on party, religion, or community," said the Jamaat leader.

He also urged the government to ensure that each family of martyrs is given at least one dignified job.

Regarding the recent workers' unrest, the Jamaat leader said, "A certain group is behind clashes between the owners and workers of our country. The enemies of this society want to destroy the industry.

"They exploit workers' emotions, causing the workers to take to the streets and die while they [the manipulators] sit and reap the benefits."

Besides emphasising the appointment of non-party individuals in judiciary, Shafiqur said, "We do not want to see any political figures sworn in as judges in the courts. We want to see officials who work for the country and its people, not a particular group or party."

Recounting the Shapla Chattar incident, the Jamaat Ameer claimed that in 2013, scholars and clerics were killed in the darkness of night at Shapla Chattar, and their bodies disappeared after being shot.

"We demand justice for these murders."

Calling for the cooperation of the public in building the future of the country, the Jamaat ameer urged the leaders, workers, and people of the country to stand by the families of all those killed and injured during the movement.
