DNCC evicts over 50 illegal structures at Gabtoli riverbank
During the operation, the authorities demolished more than fifty illegal trading sheds and traders were warned to remove their goods, including bricks and stones from the area within next seven days

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) today conducted a drive against illegal structures, including brick, sand, and stone trading outlets, along the Gabtoli riverbank here.
During the operation, the authorities demolished more than fifty illegal trading sheds and traders were warned to remove their goods, including bricks and stones from the area within next seven days.
The drive was led by DNCC's Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Mohammad Jalal Uddin, Property Officer and Executive Magistrate Farzana Khanam, and Executive Magistrate Md Shahidul Islam.
DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaj and Chief Property Officer Md Nuruzzaman were also present during the drive.
Talking to reporters, DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaj said, "Reclaiming the properties of the City Corporation is our responsibility. These areas will be converted into fields and parks. Open spaces and parks belong to the people, and they have the right to enjoy these facilities."
Highlighting the shortage of open spaces in Dhaka city, he said many city corporation lands generate revenue, with nearly 150 acres of land along the Gabtoli riverbank remaining encroached upon for a long time.
Later, he assured that the demolition campaign will continue accordingly.
Regarding demolition of establishments, he said, "They have not acquired any permission from the city corporation, and we are not receiving any revenue from these activities. There is no need for notice to evict these encroachers since they have occupied the land without our consent. We will reclaim these spaces for the interest of the country and the people".
In response to a query of journalist's, he said the traders have been given a seven-day deadline to vacate their premises. We gave them option to conduct their business legally by renting the space from the city corporation, with relevant departments to determine the rental fees according to government policies.
