DMP urges authorities not to repair roads during Ramadan
In order to reduce the public sufferings, the DMP says it will not be appropriate to start utility-related works on the roads during the holy month
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) requested all concerned not to dig out roads for utility purposes during the month of holy Ramadan, likely to begin from 2 March as the capital city witnesses intensified traffic gridlocks during the period.
In a statement, the DMP said it is often observed that even during the month of Ramadan, various organisations and contractors block roads for various utility-related works, which results in narrowing of the roads and creating severe traffic jams in the adjacent areas.
"Due to traffic jams on the roads, many people cannot reach their workplace, hospital, market and other places on time. In order to reduce the public sufferings, it would not be appropriate for various organisations, contractors not to start utility-related works on the roads of Dhaka Metropolitan City during the holy month of Ramadan," it said.

It also said the holy month of Ramadan is likely to begin from 2 March and on the occasion of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr, the movement of people, including traffic, in Dhaka Metropolitan City will generally increase.
Most of the people will carry out their activities from 7am to 10pm, it said, adding that as a result, there is a possibility of excessive traffic pressure on the roads during the month of Ramadan.
"In this situation, Dhaka Metropolitan police have specifically requested that various organizations, contractors not to restart various utility-related work in Dhaka Metropolitan City during the holy month of Ramadan," the statement said.
The DMP has sought cooperation of all concerned in this regard.
