DMP conducts second phase of rapid response drill across Dhaka
Police activities were also seen at Asad Gate, Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, Karwan Bazar SAARC Fountain, and Matsya Bhaban intersections
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today (10 January) carried out the second phase of a rapid response drill, deploying thousands of police personnel at key points across the capital.
During the exercise, DMP members took positions at major intersections, including Shahbagh, Mohakhali, and Bijoy Sarani, as part of preparedness measures to respond swiftly to any unforeseen situation.
Police activities were also seen at Asad Gate, Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, Karwan Bazar SAARC Fountain, and Matsya Bhaban intersections.
Md Maksuder Rahman, deputy commissioner (protection and protocol) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told The Business Standard that such drills are conducted every month to assess officers' readiness and instant response capacity.
"These exercises help us evaluate capacity building and preparedness for unexpected incidents," he said.
He added that a similar large-scale drill had earlier been conducted ahead of the activity-banned Awami League's "Dhaka Lockdown" programme announced for 13 November, 2025.
Ahead of that programme, police had conducted a coordinated citywide security drill across 142 key locations, deploying around 7,000 personnel to maintain law and order.
