Pet monkey turns up at police station after owner's arrest in murder case
The monkey wandered around the station premises, seemingly searching for its owner, calling out, moving from one place to another and staring at people nearby.
An emotional scene unfolded in Raipur upazila of Lakshmipur after a pet monkey named "Raja Mia" appeared at a police station searching for its owner, who was arrested as the prime suspect in a murder case.
The suspect, Gias Uddin Gesu, a resident of Char Ababil union, was arrested last night (4 May) from the Wireless area of Chandpur Sadar in connection with the killing of auto-rickshaw driver Rajib.
During the arrest, he reportedly requested police to bring along his pet monkey, which had been living with him for several years.
Confirming the matter, Raipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahin Mia said the monkey was first spotted near a pond area shortly after the suspect was brought in.
"Since then, it has been staying around the station premises. We have informed the forest department, and they will take the animal under their supervision," he said.
According to police, the monkey had been constantly by Gesu's side for years. However, after being brought to the station, the animal began showing restless and unusual behaviour.
The monkey wandered around the station premises, seemingly searching for its owner, calling out, moving from one place to another and staring at people nearby.
Meanwhile, crowds gathered at the station to catch a glimpse of the monkey. Its unpredictable behaviour, running inside the station and climbing trees, also posed challenges for police officers trying to manage the situation.
Police said Gesu had been on the run since Friday night when Rajib was murdered, and police recovered the victim's body early Saturday morning.
Later that night, the victim's father, Md Mostafa, filed a murder case with Raipur Police Station, naming Gesu as the main accused.
