Assistant presiding officer among 2 killed in Sherpur road crash
Six others were injured in the accident.
Two people, including an assistant presiding officer, were killed and six others seriously injured in a head-on collision between a mini truck and a CNG-run autorickshaw on the Sherpur-Jamalpur highway in the Shimultali area of Nandir Bazar in Sherpur Sadar upazila this noon (11 February).
The deceased were Md Rukunuzzaman Rukon, 30, a resident of Sarishabari upazila in Jamalpur, and Mahfuza Akhtar, 19, wife of M Nirab, a resident of Katlamari area under Madarganj upazila of Jamalpur.
According to police, the speeding mini truck, travelling from Sarishabari towards Sherpur Sadar, collided head-on with the CNG-run autorickshaw. One of the victims died on the spot, while the other succumbed to injuries on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Six injured passengers were admitted to Sherpur District Sadar Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Sherpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Sohel Rana said legal action will be taken following an investigation into the accident.
