Police on Friday recovered three dead bodies from a rented house at the Dilalpur area of Pabna Sadar upazila.

The deceased were identified as Abdul Jabbar, 67, a retired officer of the Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank; his wife Summa Khatun, 58; and their adopted daughter Sanzida Khatun, 14.

Nasim Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Pabna Sadar police station, confirmed the matter to the media.

"Police recovered the dead bodies after the Jumma prayers, acting on information from the locals," added the OC.

He said the house had been robbed and that the murders might have happened at least two to three days ago.

According to locals, there were no other tenants in the two-storied house. The landlord is an expatriate currently living in the US.

The daughter, Sanzida, was a seventh-grader at the Pabna Collectorate Public School and College.

"My brother adopted Sanzida as he had no children. He was a gentleman and did not have any problems with anyone," said Maniruzzaman, brother of the deceased Abdul Jabbar.

He demanded punishment for the people involved in the murders.

"My brother owns a house in Shalgaria area of the town. But he had been living in this house for a long time. Someone might have murdered them for his property," said Jabbar's sister Nazma Khatun.

Abdul Jabbar had been living in the rented house for around four years with his family, said Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, police superintendent of the district.

"As nobody came out of the house in the past three days, locals went to inquire and saw through the window that there were dead bodies lying on the floor. They then informed the local police station," he said.

He added that police had cordoned off the house and further details would be known after the forensic team arrived from Rajshahi.
