Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Azaz has announced that houses that discharge sewage directly into canals, lakes, or other water bodies via the city's storm drainage system will be marked with red paint on their exterior walls.

Speaking at a public hearing and opinion-sharing session yesterday (24 May), Azaz emphasised that many homes are violating urban planning regulations by not having septic tanks as required by Rajuk (Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha) guidelines.

"These homes have already been identified," said Azaz. "Immediately after the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha, we will mark their walls with red paint to publicly indicate the violation."

In addition to the sewage issue, Azaz announced that DNCC will also launch an eviction drive after Eid-ul-Adha to clear illegal encroachments from roads and footpaths in the Gulshan-Banani area.

The administrator also sought cooperation from local societies to ensure proper waste management during Eid-ul-Adha.
