The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has allocated Tk187.75 crore for mosquito control in its proposed budget for the fiscal year 2025–26, accounting for approximately 3% of its total budget of Tk6,069 crore.

The budget was approved today (25 June) during the 7th corporation meeting held at the DNCC headquarters in Gulshan-2, presided over by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Azaz.

For the upcoming fiscal year, both the revenue and expenditure targets have been set at Tk6,069 crore.

The revenue collection target stands at Tk3,636 crore, which is 60% of the total estimated income.

"This high revenue collection target will undoubtedly be a challenge," said Azaz during the meeting.

"However, we are fully prepared to meet this challenge," he added.

Azaz said priority will be given to the development of the 18 newly created wards, reflecting Dhaka North's commitment to inclusive urban development.

Out of the total budget, Tk4,624 crore, or 76%, has been allocated for development purposes. The largest share of development spending—Tk2,032.5 crore, or 33% of the total budget—has been earmarked for roads and infrastructure improvement.

The meeting also approved a proposal to rename the "ward secretary" position across all wards.

Suggested new titles include "ward supervisor," "ward coordinator," or "ward organiser."

The proposal will be sent to the Ministry of Public Administration for final approval, Azaz further said.
