Deprived BCL faction of Ctg Uni lifts blockade

A Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) faction at Chittagong University (CU) deprived of posts in the party's new committee at the university and staging demonstrations on campus since Monday, called off their indefinite blockade.

At a press conference at the main gate of the university on Tuesday afternoon, BCL leader Al Amin, told the media they withdrew their blockade taking student suffering into account, and a university administration request.

"The newly-announced full-fledged committee was announced after three years where most who secured posts are not students, are married, or come from families with links to BNP-Jamaat politics," said the leader of the Bijoy Group of the university's Chhatra League unit. 

 "With the protest we have informed our leader, deputy education minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury, about the issue. He knows all about the deprivation of our selfless and devoted leaders," he went on to say.

"Now, central leaders will take decisions in this regard and so we have withdrawn the protest," he added. 

Earlier, leaders and activists of the BCL factions who didn't get any posts in the new committee, enforced the blockade demanding a reconstitution of the committee, thereby bringing classes and exams of the university to a halt on Monday.

Earlier at Sunday midnight, central BCL had announced a 376-member full committee for the Chittagong University unit of BCL after three years.

After the announcement of the new committee, some deprived and excluded BCL men started protesting on  campus, locking the university's main gate.
