Dengue cases cross 100,000, death toll stands at 404
Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 575 people. In 2023, 1,705 people lost their lives due to dengue, making it the deadliest year on record.
The number of dengue patients in the country has crossed 100,000 this year, while the death toll stands at 404.
In the 24 hours until 8:00am today (13 December), 397 people were admitted to hospitals with dengue. With this, the total number of hospitalised dengue patients this year has reached 100,090.
However, no deaths from the mosquito-borne disease were reported in the past 24 hours.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), among those admitted in the last 24 hours, 180 patients were from the two city corporation areas of Dhaka, 59 from Chattogram Division, 53 from Dhaka Division, 18 from Mymensingh Division, and 52 from Barishal Division. In addition, 14 patients were identified in Khulna Division, 19 in Rajshahi Division, and 2 in Sylhet Division.
Currently, 1,404 dengue patients are receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
Of them, 460 are admitted to hospitals in Dhaka, while 944 are being treated at hospitals outside the capital.
The DGHS report further shows that 61.8% of this year's patients are male, while 38.2% are female.
Among the fatalities, 53.2% were men and 46.8% were women.

The DGHS recorded 321,179 dengue cases and 3,18,749 recoveries in the same year.
