'Dangerous for civilians': Adviser Asif flags national security lapse after airport gun magazine incident goes viral
"From yesterday's incident, I’ve come to realise that not just with a pistol — even if we carried a missile — we wouldn't be safe,” he said

A day after a gun magazine was found in the bag of Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan at the Dhaka airport, an incident he later explained as an unintentional packing error, the adviser raised concerns about national security after the CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media.
In a Facebook post today (30 June), the LGRD and cooperatives adviser raised alarms over how quickly the surveillance footage of the incident spread, reaching people abroad.
"If I, a government official, can be subjected to this kind of breach, imagine how dangerous it is for ordinary citizens," Asif said.
"From yesterday's incident, I've come to realise that not just with a pistol — even if we carried a missile — we wouldn't be safe," Asif said.
"Those whose responsibility it is to monitor enemies and ensure our national security are now spending all their power and public funds surveilling citizens and conducting targeted character assassination. Failing to find anything legitimate, they are attacking based on bizarre and laughable matters," he added.
"These people, if they want, can traffic our real-time location, schedules, and sensitive information to any domestic or foreign terrorist group, assassin, or foreign intelligence agency in exchange for money or personal gain."
The adviser also said, "Unfortunately, there's now hardly any difference between the statements of some so-called participants of the mass uprising and those of Hasina's son.
"But the hopeful part is that the people of Bangladesh are now more aware than ever before. If something undesirable happens to the leadership of the mass uprising, it should be obvious to everyone who is behind it."
