Student orgs could have averted DU hall politics crisis through consensus: Asif Mahmud
“The student organisations should have agreed on a new framework for how student politics would function or not function. If they had sat together and reached an understanding, the current confrontational situation could have been avoided,” he says

The recent controversy over student politics in Dhaka University's residential halls could have been avoided if student organisations had reached a mutual understanding among themselves, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan said today (9 August).
"The student organisations should have agreed on a new framework for how student politics would function or not function. If they had sat together and reached an understanding, the current confrontational situation could have been avoided," he told reporters after attending the closing and prize-giving ceremony of a friendly cricket match at Rajshahi Divisional Stadium.
The adviser emphasised that student organisations had the opportunity to act with greater maturity. "They could have reached a consensus to create a student-friendly roadmap and reach a mutual understanding about the future of student politics."
However, he refrained from commenting on the Dhaka University authorities' recent decision to ban student politics in residential halls.
On a different note, Asif Mahmud, also the youth and sports adviser, said that a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) delegation had inspected the Rajshahi Divisional Stadium for renovation work.
