Ctg Port traffic wing goes on 48-hour poll holiday; limited services to continue
The move follows an executive order declaring a public holiday to facilitate voting
The traffic division of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) will remain under a 48-hour government holiday from today (11 February) for the 13th National Parliament Election and referendum, though essential operations will continue on a limited scale.
An office order issued on 9 February by the Director (Traffic) said all operational points under the traffic department — including Pangaon Inland Container Terminal and Dhaka ICD — will stay closed from 8am on Wednesday, 11 February to 8am on Friday, 13 February.
The move follows an executive order declaring a public holiday to facilitate voting.
Despite the closure, the port will allow certain activities under special arrangements. Work on vessels and lighters may proceed with prior approval from customs and the port authority, subject to payment of additional charges as per rules.
For handling food items, relief consignments, and other priority goods, users must inform the Director (Traffic) or the designated official beforehand.
The order adds that required manpower will be arranged to oversee essential functions at the traffic department, including at Pangaon ICT and Dhaka ICD.
Banks operating inside the port area — including Janata Bank and One Bank — have been requested to keep their booths open with adequate staff during the holiday.
Sonali Bank at the Customs House, relevant customs branches, and private depots have also been asked to ensure sufficient staffing to keep necessary activities running.
Confirming the development, CPA Director (Admin) Omar Faruk told The Business Standard, "Container handling from vessels will continue during the period. Limited delivery arrangements will also be available for those seeking to take delivery of goods."
