Ctg police ban rallies, processions near port for 30 days
"The smooth flow of this traffic is crucial for maintaining the country’s trade operations," reads a statement.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has imposed a 30-day ban on all kinds of rallies, processions, human chains, and public gatherings in areas surrounding the Chattogram port, citing the need to ensure uninterrupted import and export operations.
The restriction, announced through a public notice issued by CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz yesterday (9 October), will remain in force from Saturday (11 October) for the next 30 days.
According to the notice, gatherings of any political, labour, or social organisation have been prohibited in key port-adjacent points — including Barik Building intersection, Nimtala intersection, Jetty Gate No. 3, Customs intersection, and Saltgola Crossing.
The CMP commissioner invoked powers under Section 30 of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police Ordinance, 1978 to enforce the ban.
Explaining the decision, police said the Chattogram port is the economic lifeline of Bangladesh, handling the majority of the country's import and export cargo. Every day, around five to six thousand vehicles transport essential goods, industrial raw materials, and export items through the port area.
"The smooth flow of this traffic is crucial for maintaining the country's trade operations," the notice stated. "Public gatherings in the port vicinity often cause severe congestion, disrupting port activities and inflicting serious damage to the national economy."
The announcement was also shared on CMP's official Facebook page.
