Ctg gas leak blast: 10-year-old Snigdha dies after a month, entire family gone
A 10-year-old girl injured in the devastating house fire in Halishahar, Chattogram, has died after a month of treatment, leaving no survivors in her four-member family.
Umme Aiman Snigdha passed away around 2am on Thursday (26 March) at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, where she had been undergoing treatment since the incident.
Snigdha was the daughter of Sakhawat Hossain, who was a motor parts trader. Her father, mother Nurjahan Begum, and brother Safayat Hossain had earlier died from injuries sustained in the same explosion. With Snigdha's death, no member of the family remains alive.
Nine people had suffered burn injuries in the incident, seven have now died. Two children, Ayesha, 4, and Farhan Ahmed, 6, are still undergoing treatment.
Resident physician Shawon Bin Rahman at the burn institute said Snigdha succumbed to complications after a prolonged illness, as infections spread during her treatment.
The explosion occurred around 4:30am on 23 February at a flat on the third floor of a six-storey building named Halima Manzil in Halishahar. The blast triggered a fire, causing severe casualties.
In addition to Sakhawat Hossain's wife and children, his expatriate elder brother Samir Ahmed, his brother's wife Pakhi Akter, and his younger brother Shipon Hossain were also killed in the incident.
Mohammad Mohiuddin Jony, brother-in-law of Shakhawat Hossain, said, "No one from the four-member family is alive anymore. One by one, they have all passed away."
