Fire at Mohammadpur 10-storey building doused after nearly an hour

A fire that broke out at a 10-storey building on Tajmahal Road in Dhaka's Mohammadpur area around 7:03pm this evening (24 May) was extinguished after nearly an hour.
The fire was fully doused at 7:55pm by two units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, confirmed Rakibul Hasan, duty officer at the Fire Service control room.
He said the Fire Service received information about the blaze at 7:03pm. The fire originated on the 10th floor of the building located opposite Japan Garden City on Tajmahal Road.
Two units from the Mohammadpur Fire Station reached the scene at 7:22pm and started efforts to bring the fire under control. The blaze was contained by 7:30pm and completely extinguished at 7:55pm.
Two additional units from the Kallyanpur Fire Station were dispatched but returned after the fire came under control, he added.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage could not be immediately determined.
The Fire Service official also could not immediately confirm whether the building was residential or commercial.
