A youth has been apprehended by prison guards at Cumilla Central Jail while trying to give marijuana to an inmate who has been jailed in a drug-related case.

The incident took place inside the prison at 4pm today (8 April), said prison authorities.

The youth has been identified as Md Shanto, son of Jolmat Mia of Badsha Mia Bazar area of ​​Cumilla, said Senior Jail Superintendent Halima Khatun.

According to prison sources, Shanto brought a pair of leather shoes and clothes to the prison guard, Md Masud, who was in charge of the prison canteen, to give to inmate Motaleb Hossain.

When Masud found him suspicious, he showed the pair of shoes to the prison guard Md Saiful Islam Sunny.

The prison guards opened the bottom of the shoes and found three packets of marijuana wrapped in white polythene.

Senior Jail Superintendent Halima said, "Two people came with the shoes. When suspicion arose, one of them ran away. 91 grams of marijuana were found in the shoes. Inmate Motaleb Hossain came to the prison in a drug case. He has been kept in a separate cell. The filing of a case against the accused visitor is underway."
