Banasree madrasah student death: Accused sent to jail after remand

A Dhaka court has sent a student of Alokito Quran International Hifz Madrasah in Banasree to jail after the completion of his remand in a case related to the death of another student found hanging in the madrasah's restroom.
The accused, Md Shihab Hossain, was produced before the court today (25 May) after a five-day remand.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Piyas passed the order after the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam of Rampura Police Station, sought Shihab's detention in jail custody.
Dhaka Metropolitan Prosecution Division Sub-Inspector Abu Kalam Azad confirmed the matter.
Earlier, police arrested Shihab from Khaksara village in Bera upazila of Pabna district on 20 May. The court had later approved a five-day remand for further interrogation.
According to police, the incident dates back to 19 May when the body of a student named Md Abdullah was recovered from a washroom of the madrasah located in Block C of Banasree under Rampura Police Station.
Following the incident, the victim's mother filed a case with Rampura Police Station against Shihab and unidentified persons.
Police said the investigation into the case is ongoing.
