Woman held with 285kg of marijuana in Uttara
A total of 132 packets of marijuana weighing 285 kilograms were recovered from her possession.
The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested a woman with 285 kilograms of marijuana in the capital's Uttara area.
The arrestee is Ruby Akter, 26. A total of 132 packets of marijuana weighing 285 kilograms were recovered from her possession.
According to the DMP Media Cell, the seized drugs are valued at around Tk71.25 lakh.
Acting on a tip-off, Wari Division of DB conducted a raid around 2:30am on Saturday (25 October) on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway near the Bata showroom.
According to police, Ruby was found standing near a private car and a microbus with a black travel bag and a plastic sack. As officers approached, the vehicles sped away. Ruby tried to escape but was caught, while her husband, Harun Sarker, and several others fled.
According to DB, Ruby is part of a professional drug-trafficking group that smuggles drugs from Cumilla's border areas to Dhaka and nearby districts.
She has been sent to court.
