Two arrested over gunning down of CNG driver in Dhaka's Jurain
RAB says the killing was motivated by drug-trade conflicts
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two individuals in connection with the fatal shooting of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver in Dhaka's Jurain, reportedly stemming from a conflict linked to drug trade.
The arrestees are Md Yusuf Sardar, 45, and Md Uzzal alias Kanchi, 30.
RAB-10 conducted separate raids today (2 December), detaining Yusuf from Jurain's Alambagh area and Uzzal from railway gate area, said RAB-10 Assistant Director (Media) Taposh Karmakar.
According to the RAB official, the deceased, Md Pappu Sheikh, 26, left his rented home in East Jurain yesterday evening with plans to visit his in-laws. Around 6:30pm, as he passed through Kabi Nazrul Lane's Kana Jabbar Goli, members of a local drug and crime ring, allegedly led by Bapparaj alias Bappa, intercepted him with firearms and sharp weapons.
Bapparaj, 40, fired three shots at Pappu, with one bullet striking him near his groin, leaving him critically injured, Taposh said.
Locals rushed the victim to Ad-din Hospital, from where he was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Doctors there pronounced him dead around 8pm.
Following a complaint from the victim's father, Kadamtali Police Station registered a murder case today.
Taposh said the killing was motivated by drug-trade conflicts.
"Yusuf Sardar has three prior cases, including drug-related charges, while Uzzal alias Kanchi faces two similar cases," he added.
