Philip, who helped Hadi's alleged shooter Faisal escape to India, arrested in West Bengal
Alleged human trafficker Philip Sangmao – who assisted Faisal Karim Masud alias Daud Khan, the prime accused in the assassination attempt on Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, to flee illegally to India – has been arrested in West Bengal.
Acting on a tip-off, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Bengal Police arrested him today from an area adjacent to the Shantipur Bypass, Indian news agency ANI reported today (14 March), citing a press statement of STF in a post on X.
During preliminary interrogation, the post said, Philip Sangmao admitted to being involved in the illicit activity of facilitating the cross-border movement of people in exchange for money.
The accused was produced before the court today.
Earlier on 8 March, the same force of West Bengal Police arrested Faisal and Alamgir Hossain — the main suspects in the murder of the Inqilab Mancha spokesperson.
The duo were arrested near the Bongaon border area for illegally entering and staying in India.
In the X post today, the force said, "The interrogation of Faisal and Alamgir – two individuals arrested in connection with the Hadi murder case – revealed that they had illegally entered India by crossing the Meghalaya border with the assistance of a facilitator named Philip Sangmao, a resident of Haluaghat, Bangladesh.
"Subsequently, the facilitator himself illegally entered India and went into hiding at various locations."
So far, 12 people have been arrested in the country in connection with Hadi's murder case.
